Griffiths. Brian, Elected Anne Arundel County school board will end Democrats’ backroom maneuvers, October 6, 2017.
Griffiths is wrong to argue that the new elected school board will totally replace the SBAC. But he is right that that is what the press and politicians have been telling the public, mostly by omitting crucial details about when the appointment and election process will apply. For details, see eLighthouse.info.
Felice, Selene San, Birge resigns from Board of Education, October 8, 2017.
“Birge was known for her stance against politicizing the school board [selection process].”
It’s hard to imagine a more politicized selection process than the one Birge has not only endorsed but facilitated. Here is just one example. Birge was twice nominated by the School Board Nominating Commission, whose information systems have been controlled by the Board of Education. Both times that she sought the nomination she had to submit a resume and statement of goals. Those documents were deleted from the SBNC website immediately after she was nominated. The videos of her interviews were also later removed. That takedown of the only record of campaign promises was no mistake; it was part of the School Board’s systematic effort to remove a critical type of accountability from the election process. For details of the highly politicized process that Birge champions as non-political, see eLighthouse.info.
Politics doesn’t disappear just because it’s invisible; indeed, invisible politics is the worst type of politics.
