Pacella, Rachael, Southern, Severna Park students finalists for Student Member of the Board position, March 23, 2018.

Snider Comment

“The Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils announced on Friday three finalists for the student position on the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County.”

Shame on the Capital for yet once again both reprinting the AACPS press release announcing the results of the AACPS staff controlled screening and not reporting on the mechanism by which those three students were selected from among a large field of candidates.

“A debate is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 28 at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ headquarters on Riva Road.”

This, and the accompanying announced video broadcasting of the final election, marks a huge change in the shamefully corrupt SMOB selection process. The AACPS staff who controlled the selection process fought this change tooth and nail and harassed me in a Putinesque manner to prevent it from happening (see elighthouse.isolon.org/the-smob-election-and-riva-roads-culture-of-intimidation).  Kudos to the AACPS Superintendent and Board of Education for giving up—at least for the time being—some of their power to manipulate the SMOB election.
