As part of his reform efforts, I hope Robert Neall will consider implementing statewide reporting for Maryland State government along the lines pioneered by the Federal Government’s Data Act, which has yet to be fully implemented but recently passed a milestone with finalized machine-readable data standards. A pre-condition for more efficient government is better financial reporting. Neall could make a great contribution by seizing the opportunity presented by new information technology to bring Maryland’s financial reporting into the Information Age.
